Looking After The Environment
We’re proud to unveil the O’Reilly Group’s comprehensive roadmap to Net Zero by 2050!
This plan is our steadfast commitment to advancing sustainability within our operations and contributing to a greener planet.
- Afforestation: We’ve planted 15,000 trees at our Oakstown plant, setting a clear path towards creating a sustainable environment, with plans to expand afforestation to other facilities.
- Sustainable Concrete: We’re implementing processes like carbon capture and the use of recycled water to make our concrete production even more environmentally friendly.
- Offsite Manufacturing: Our innovative Architectural Wall Panels not only expedite the building process but also reduce on-site waste, making construction more sustainable.
- Tech-Driven Efficiency: We’re leveraging technology like BIM and advanced software to optimise operations, reduce waste, and provide high-quality, sustainable products to our customers.
- Renewable Energy: We’re shifting towards generating 100% of our electricity from renewable sources, kicking off with solar panel installation across all production buildings.
We’re proud to be taking significant strides towards achieving Net Zero by 2050.

The O’Reilly Group have worked hard in recent years to ensure we are reducing our carbon footprint and environmental impacts.
As the environment has become an extreme concern, we have been doing our part in trying to create a more sustainable and environmentally friendly workplace.
Our appointed Environmental Officer has been working tirelessly to implement change in our production plants, quarry sites and office building to help us reduce our carbon footprint and therefore, impact the environment in a positive manner.
From reducing CO2 emissions in our concrete, to planting 15,000 trees, we are proactively looking for new ways to improve the Group’s environmental ethos.
Environmental Management Plan >
Throughout all of our facilities, between Ireland and the UK, the O’Reilly Group have put small but significant changes in place which has helped reduce our carbon footprint.
Office Actions
Recycling:
Recycling facilities are in place in all canteen/kitchen areas across all offices and production plants. A list of relevant items that belong in the designated recycling areas are provided, to prevent cross contamination and to ensure all waste is disposed of correctly. There has also been a huge push on recycling within the office. There are designated bins provided for ink cartridges and other recyclable office materials dispersed throughout the Group’s offices.
Energy Saving:
As busy offices are a constant use of energy, we try our best to reduce our own energy consumption across all offices in the group. Notices are in place at each light switch reminding staff to turn the light off when not needed. The last person to leave a room is required to turn off the lights, for example, the last person to leave an office at the end of the day or the last person to leave the canteen at the end of lunch.
The O’Reilly Group are currently in talks regarding moving to complete solar power for all office buildings across the Group. The installation of solar panels has a number of benefits, particularly when looking at the environment. Powering all office building wholly through solar energy will have a significant impact to the company’s carbon footprint. Solar power is something that the O’Reilly Group are passionate to move towards in the coming years.
The changes, both big and small, that have been made across all O’Reilly Group facilities offer powerful advantages to the environment, while also greatly benefitting the company’s environmental ethos. We are proud that all staff have come on board to include these small but significant changes to their daily work life and look forward to making bigger changes in future.
Plant Actions
Water Recycling:
All water used for material processing at our Taghart Quarry Washplant is recycled. The silt water from the Washplant is pumped to a settlement pond, and after settlement the clean water is piped to a storage pond for reuse in the plant. An Oil/Water separator is installed at the garage where machine repairs are carried out. All surface water from the quarry is routed to settlement and filter beds before finally being released to the water course. This discharge water is regularly tested to ensure we comply with all environmental regulations.
Raw Materials:
At our quarry sites, we reuse and repurpose all crushed aggregate products. When our quarries are blasted, all produce has a use – there is no waste! From smaller particles of dust to larger stone, aggregates are used in the production of our precast products or delivered to customers as one of our crushed aggregate or sand products.
Recycling:
All O’Reilly Group production facilities have areas for recyclable waste material, which includes timber, plastic and steel on-site. Each material has its own designated area in the yard with clear signage to avoid cross contamination. All recyclable waste is place neatly in their area and a waste removal company comes fortnightly to take it to a recycling plant. The Group’s Environmental Officer has done training days with all staff outdoors regarding the recycling system in place to ensure it is done correctly.
LED Lighting:
We have upgraded all manufacturing plants to low energy LED lighting to reduce our carbon footprint. This is highly effective during the winter months when days are shorter, and more lighting is required throughout our production facilities. The low energy option throughout all facilities allows the O’Reilly Group to protect the planet in our daily operations.
