Secure Children’s Home Precast Concrete Project Update
Secure Children’s Home precast concrete solutions are playing a critical role in the delivery of a new high-security care facility in the UK, now entering its final stages of construction. O’Reilly Precast is proud to be supporting this important public sector project through the design, manufacture, and installation of the complete precast concrete frame.
Working in close collaboration with Willmott Dixon, this project demonstrates how off-site precast concrete construction and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) can deliver complex, regulated buildings with greater speed, safety, and quality assurance.
Secure Children’s Home Precast Concrete Frame Delivery
The Secure Children’s Home precast concrete frame has been delivered using a fully coordinated MMC approach. From early design engagement through to on-site installation, O’Reilly Precast has provided an integrated structural solution tailored to the specific performance, durability, and security requirements of the facility.
Off-site manufacture allowed all structural elements to be produced in a controlled factory environment, ensuring consistent quality and dimensional accuracy before installation on site. This approach significantly reduced on-site labour requirements and improved overall programme certainty.
Full Precast Concrete Frame Scope
O’Reilly Precast delivered a substantial volume of structural elements, including:
- 16,500 m² of precast concrete walls
- Over 16,000 m² of hollowcore flooring
- 3,460 m² of wideslab flooring
- 195 stair risers across 22 precast stair flights
- Over 43 linear metres of precast beams and columns
Each element was designed, detailed, manufactured, and installed by O’Reilly Precast, providing a single-source precast solution aligned with MMC best practice.
Secure Children’s Home Precast Concrete Project – 5 Key Benefits of MMC Delivery
This project highlights the advantages of construction for sensitive and highly regulated environments. Key benefits include:
- Reduced on-site labour and improved safety performance
- Faster and more reliable construction programmes
- High levels of quality control and dimensional precision
- Reduced disruption to surrounding areas
- Improved predictability for complex sequencing
By adopting off-site precast concrete systems, the project team maintained momentum while meeting strict security, durability, and performance standards required for a Secure Children’s Home facility.
Collaboration Across the Project Team
The successful delivery of the Secure Children’s Home precast concrete frame has been underpinned by early engagement and close collaboration between all stakeholders:
- Main Contractor: Willmott Dixon
- End Users: Department for Education and Lincolnshire County Council
- Precast Partner: O’Reilly Precast
This collaborative approach ensured that design coordination, manufacturing schedules, and installation sequencing aligned seamlessly throughout the project lifecycle.
Supporting Critical Community Infrastructure
Secure Children’s Homes provide essential services within the public sector, and the long-term performance of the building fabric is critical. Secure Children’s Home precast concrete solutions offer durability, robustness, and reduced maintenance requirements, making them ideally suited to facilities of this nature.
As the project approaches completion, recent aerial imagery clearly demonstrates the scale and progress achieved through off-site construction and precast concrete delivery.
O’Reilly Precast continues to support public sector and community infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland, delivering high-performance precast concrete frames that combine efficiency, quality, and programme certainty.
